Deviating (heh) from the figure work of late, I wanted to focus on a more texture-oriented piece. Simple, geometrical squares [tiles] in juxtaposition. Also an allusion to a piece I shall begin shortly which is likewise inspired by a town in a state of decay, littered with mannequins.
Pencil and acrylic on paper, as always let me know what you think, Constant Deviant...

Why has no one commented on this?? I am completely in love with the texture work you've done here. There is a splendid sense of balance that comes through without straining or distracting the overall composition and invites you to take your time in the study of each tile. I do believe this has become my second all time favorite among your works. The first being Waiting in the Waste which I adore beyond reason I’m looking forward to seeing the upcoming town piece as well!

Aww thanks! I don't expect a lot of feedback on this piece due to being so different from everything else, so the compliment is that much more appreciated! I'm always happy to see that some of my first friends here at DA still like the work! I'm likewise really happy that you liked Waiting in the Waste, and have good news for you! Sometime in the future of projects planned, I am hoping to do a followup to that one. When I started drawing again after a long hiatus, it was that piece that became a landmark for me showing me that I was finding my niche, and the path and style that I see for my creative future. So to gauge my improvement artistically, I hope to do a subsequent piece using the same character, (maybe he'll have a name one day, something tells me he will), and setting (susie q's bar and grill, hot beer, crappy food, bad service ). So look for Waiting in the Waste II sometime in the future...
Thanks again! Sorry for the lengthy response

A good day for old DA friends! Glad you like it, kind sir! The piece inspired by that town should be the one after the next... next one's oil should be dry soon, hopefully can post soon. Although, in a way the next one is also inspired by the town that takes all. Been on a kick lately.

Oooh a series! I suck at sequential art but I am avidly looking forward to enjoying return to the Waste
you would be amused to know that we actually HAD a diner called Susie Q's.. and true to life, did indeed have bad food and worse service. If asked, no one who had experienced the place and returned could never really answer -why- they came back...they just do. What IS it about such places that endear us so?
...they did have good fries though.

Here George Webb's is the leader in crappy food and service! I think people go back because it's a state staple... or because it's open 24/7 and has Denny's out numbered.
